Champagne Apollonis

11th GENERATION CHAMPAGNE PRODUCERS

Heritage

The first vintners were established in Nesle-Le Repos in 1675.  Leopold Loriot, a saxophonist and his wife Palmyre were the first ever to set up a press in the village in 1903.  From one generation to the next each man in the family has found within music the mystery of champagne, each woman succeeding the previous one like a melody. Current growers Michel Loriot and his wife Martine established their estate in 1977. They are the 11th generation of winemakers. Their daughter Marie, the Oenologist, and her husband Alban, the production manager, are the 12th generation.

Several plots of the Apollonis Estate benefit from a practice unheard of in Champagne: proteody, also known as music for plants. This is a technique that Michel uses to strengthen his vines by increasing their resilience to disease.  Michel joined the Vignerons Independants in the 1980's and was president of the organization from 2010-2016.

The Apollonis estate comprises 20 plots spread over 7 hectares. It is divided between 80% Pinot Meunier, 18% Chardonnay and 2% Pinot Noir.  The estate has been awarded the "High Environmental Value" HVE, recognizing the value of its terroir and the environment for its biodiversity.
